If GP's ck OK then the glow plug controller and relay are next to check. 1) Look for bad relay connections (loose,burnt,dirty), or bad controller ground wire. 2) Check voltage at large relay terminals. GP side (ribbon resistor) voltage should be the same as hot battery side with key "ON", and relay energized (WTS light is on). 1986 F250 Glow Plug problem. Received 6 Likes on 4 Posts. The GPR is located (as you face the front of the engine) slightly behind and to the left (passenger side) of the fuel filter. It is about 3-4" tall by about 2-3" wide with two large posts and two small posts on it. Big old cable from the batteries go to one of the big posts.
The Glow Plug relay comes on between 1 and 120 sec. and does not come on at all if oil temp is above 140F. b. Verify that B+ is being supplied on the large BK/W wire going to the Glow Plug relay. c. Install a voltmeter to the glow plug feed terminal (two brown wires or center terminal on the shunt).
The glow plugs have a combination relay amd control module mounted on the passenger side valve cover near the front of the engine. It has 2 plugins one black and one green. This is more than likely your problem. Also there are fuzes and relay in the engine compartment fuzebox if I remember correctly. HarrisonB.

The glow plug relay is the one in the rear closest to the firewall. Also, I took some other advice that I read in some other threads and called my local International dealer for the part. I was able to get the exact relay (same part number and everything) for $25.22 instead of $108 at the Ford dealer. Reply Like.

The PCM sends a ground signal to the glow plug relay to activate the relay and send power to the glow plugs. Test the small posts on the GPR to see if you're getting a ground signal to one of them when the ignition is first
